How to Fix Windows 11 Taskbar Icons Missing

If icons disappear from the Windows 11 taskbar, the issue can be caused by Explorer, display settings, or a temporary Windows glitch.

Method 1: Restart Windows Explorer

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. Find Windows Explorer.
  3. Right-click it and select Restart.

Method 2: Check taskbar settings

Open Settings > Personalization > Taskbar and review the enabled taskbar items. Make sure the icons you expect are turned on.

Method 3: Restart the PC

Restart Windows and check whether the missing icons return after signing in.

Method 4: Install Windows updates

Open Settings > Windows Update and install available updates. Restart when prompted.

Method 5: Repair system files

Open Terminal or Command Prompt as administrator and run sfc /scannow. When it finishes, restart the PC.

Final tip

If only one application icon is missing, check whether the application is still installed and create a new shortcut if necessary.
