If a second monitor looks blurry in Windows 11, the display may be using a non-native resolution, incorrect scaling, a poor cable connection, or an unsuitable refresh rate. Follow these checks in order and compare both displays after each change.
1. Set the recommended resolution
Right-click the desktop and select Display settings. Select the blurry monitor in the display diagram, then open Display resolution. Choose the option marked Recommended, which is generally the panel’s native resolution. A lower or non-native resolution can make text and edges look soft.
2. Review scaling
In Display settings, check Scale for the selected monitor. Start with the Recommended value. If text appears unusually small or large, try another supported percentage and sign out if Windows asks. Scaling can differ between screens, but extreme or custom values may make some apps appear fuzzy.
3. Check the cable and port
Make sure the video cable is fully connected at both ends. If possible, test another compatible cable or port. For a desktop with a dedicated graphics card, connect the monitor to the graphics card’s video outputs rather than the motherboard outputs, unless your setup specifically requires otherwise.
4. Confirm refresh rate and monitor settings
Open Settings → System → Display → Advanced display and select the correct monitor. Choose a refresh rate supported by the display and cable. Review the monitor’s on-screen menu for sharpness, picture mode, and any scaling option; avoid excessive sharpness, which can create halos.
5. Adjust ClearType text
Search Windows for Adjust ClearType text and follow the wizard on the affected monitor. This can improve the appearance of text, although it will not correct a resolution or cable problem.
6. Update the graphics driver
Install an appropriate driver from Windows Update or the official GPU or computer manufacturer. If the problem started after a driver update, check whether a supported rollback is available. Restart and inspect the display again.
7. Test another application
Compare text in Settings, File Explorer, and a browser. If only one app is blurry, check its zoom level and high-DPI compatibility settings rather than changing the entire display configuration.
Bottom line: Select the correct monitor, use its recommended resolution and scaling, check the cable and refresh rate, and then tune text rendering. If blur persists across devices and cables, consult the monitor manufacturer’s support.
