How to Fix Windows 11 Task Manager Not Opening

If Task Manager will not open in Windows 11, you may be unable to close frozen apps or check system resource usage. The problem can be caused by a temporary Windows issue, system corruption, or a policy setting.

1. Try a keyboard shortcut

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc. You can also press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and select Task Manager from the security screen.

2. Restart Windows

Restart the PC and try opening Task Manager again. This can clear a stuck system process.

3. Try Windows Search

Open Windows Search and type Task Manager. Right-click the result and choose the available administrator option if needed.

4. Repair system files

Open Windows Terminal as administrator and run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth. After it completes, run sfc /scannow and restart Windows.

5. Check for malware

If Task Manager is unexpectedly disabled or other Windows tools are also unavailable, run a security scan with Windows Security. Avoid downloading unofficial tools that claim to repair Task Manager.

6. Install Windows updates

Open Settings → Windows Update and install available updates. Restart and test Task Manager again.

Final thoughts

Try the keyboard shortcuts first. If multiple Windows management tools are failing, system file repair, security checks, and Windows updates are the next steps.
