If Windows 11 stays on the shutdown screen or immediately starts again, power settings, drivers, or background software may be responsible.
Method 1: Close running apps
Save your work and close open programs. Then try shutting down Windows again.
Method 2: Restart instead
Choose Restart from the Start menu. A normal restart can clear temporary system processes that interfere with shutdown.
Method 3: Disable Fast Startup
Open Control Panel, select Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do, and review Turn on fast startup. You may need to select Change settings that are currently unavailable first.
Method 4: Update drivers
Install Windows updates and check Device Manager for driver problems, especially chipset and graphics devices.
Method 5: Try a full shutdown
Open Terminal as administrator and use shutdown /s /f /t 0 to test a full shutdown. Save all work first because applications are forced to close.
Final tip
If the PC repeatedly restarts instead of shutting down, investigate power settings and recently installed drivers or software.
